23.08.02 Coincidences or Hand of God?

Dear friends,

On July 4, we arrived back in Canada. A couple of days later, we headed to Camp Cherith: (Ruth as a camper). I volunteered in the kitchen, lifeguarding, and teaching canoeing. For the 2 weeks there, I had almost no use of cellphone, computer or internet as there is little service available. The blackout was good! An excellent rest and a stretching time.

Now back in Oakville (with internet). I wish to share with you four coincidences or evidences of the hand of God.

Sincerely,

Jon

Coincidence or hand of God? (1/4)

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding,
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and He will direct your paths. Ruth and Ruby White in car on road to Cherith

Background: Ruth wanted to see Ruby (the guide dog (Golden Lab) we had been training until February of this year in Canada). But does not seem possible. We are at Camp Cherith for 2 weeks, and the house we are cat-sitting (4 cats) did not welcome Ruby.

God did take care of everything when I stopped trying to manage everything. That evening, Ruth and I can take Ruby can stay with her dog friend Quiggly just before he is recalled to go to school—such a perfect arrangement.

Coincidence or hand of God? (2/4)

Hebrews 12:1 Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus,

July 15 Driving back up to Camp Cherith after coming to Oakville to check on Johann. On Country Road 25, it is so dark and raining so heavily that I could not see neither the shoulder nor the center line of the road. Prayed: "Lord, please stop the rain." No the rain did not stop but got heavier. Suddenly it was like I heard a voice: "Fix your eyes." Ahead, there were the red taillights of a vehicle. By fixing my eyes on the taillights, I could keep driving. I could not focus on the road. A car with high beams on came from the opposite direction. When I looked at the bright lights, looking back to the taillights was difficult. I needed to learn to ignore the oncoming traffic and "Fix my eyes"

Monday at Camp Cherith saw the morning devotional book theme for the week: "Fix your eyes."

Message to me: I need to fix my eyes on Jesus: not being discouraged by the current situation and not bing able to see the logic of how God is leading. I must beware of the bright lights of "Lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the lust of the heart," which blind me so that I cannot see Jesus.

Coincidence or hand of God? (3/4)

Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

(July) As with many other young men, Johann seems to have an addiction to computer games impacting his life. One evening

  1. He had a dream that he would need to spend two extra years in high school if he did not straighten up;
  2. In the morning, he got a text message from his mother warning him that if would need to spend two extra years in high school
  3. His computer broke (not repairable).

Coincidence or hand of God? (4/4)

Matthew 6:31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

A Christian worker and his wife live at my mother's house, where we usually stay when returning to Canada. A sister and her family (who graciously allow Johann to live with them as he completes high school) returned to China for a few months and needed a cat-sitter. Such a perfect fit -- we can stay in this family's house, care for the cats and not displace the family living at my mother's house. The days they are in China closely match the days we are in Canada.
