To investigate the influence of heat loads in laser crystals on laser beam quality, we employed several Nd-doped laser crystals as gain media.Experimental results revealed that the best beam quality was generated by using the diffusion-bonded composite cr ystal. However, the fundamental laser beam was seriously distorted when a 3-mm-thick, 1-at.% Nd:YVO4 crystal was used. The study has demonstrated that the thermal conductivity was proved to be a key point to generate an excellent TEM00 laser beam.

The one-meter telescope on Lulin is employed to perform follow-up observation of supernovae in near-by galaxies. SN 2006jc was discovered on 10/09/2006. It changed its type from Ib to Ia then Ib/c and finally it becomes a type Ib supernova. In this work, we will report on the progress in the analysis of the BVRI light curves of SN 2006jc in UGC 4904. We compare light curves of SN 2006jc with SN 1994I. The B-band light curve of SN 2006jc and SN 1994I are very different.

The optical and surface qualities of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) were studied in this paper. The ITO film was grown on glass by sputter with varies radio frequency (RF) power from 60 to 80 W and O2 flow rate from 0 to 8 standard cubic centimeter per minute (sc cm). The surface quality of ITO grown by RF power of 80 W is better than 60 W from scanning electron microscope measurement. By increasing the O2 flow rate would improve the film quality, but decrease the growth rate of ITO.

Fluorescent nanodiamonds (FND) emit bright fluorescence owing to a number of embedded N-V centers created by irradiating type Ib diamond by proton beam and subsequent annealing. Here the two-photon fluorescence spectroscopy of single 100 nm FND particles were studied using both femto-second Ti-sapphire laser and pico-second Nd:YVO4 laser. The 3-D two-photon scanning image of fixed HeLa cells after the uptake of these FNDs was also obtained to show the potential usefulness of FND in biomedical imaging.

We study a hybrid Mach-Zehnder interferometer (HMZI) via 2D-FDTD method. The HMZI consists of two dielectric waveguides and a MZI structure of surface palsmon (SP) waveguides. The SP waveguides could localize energy without the diffraction limit. Hence, t he optical Kerr effect could be enhanced by SP. In addition, the proposed structure has an insertion loss as low as 1.0dB, and it is expected that these properties can be useful for all-optical controlling in a nano-photonic circuit.
